Citrix Workspace (formerly Citrix Workspace Suite) is a digital workspacesoftware platform developed by Citrix Systems that allows multiple users to remotely access and operate Microsoft Windowsdesktops running in a datacenter or a public or private cloud, via devices located elsewhere.[1][2] Users are able to access virtual desktops and applications through Citrix Workspace App.[3] Applications are delivered and managed via Citrix Virtual Apps.[2]

Unable to install Citrix Virtual Delivery Agent 7.15 CU5 on a Windows 10 machine that has Citrix Workspace App 1912 CU2 already installed. Solution If Citrix Workspace App 19.12 CU2 was already installed and VDA continues to fail on install follow these steps.

Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops is rated 8.8, while Citrix Workspace is rated 8.4. The top reviewer of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops writes 'Allows the end user device flexibility when remotely accessing my organization's resources'. In general, switching between applications/windows within a Citrix Desktop Session will work without a need to alter any settings on an endpoint with the newer releases of Citrix Workspace App. Please review the below sections for additional information. The Virtual Desktop will now open inside the Citrix Workspace Client. To sign out of the virtual desktop, right-click on the Start Button and hover over Shutdown or Sign Out and click Sign out. Note: Due to the high demand for virtual desktops, please log out of your virtual desktop session when you are finished completing your tasks.

A custom Virtual Driver for the Citrix Workspace App is registered by creating the following registry entries:

1. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICAClientEngineConfigurationAdvancedModulesICA3.0 -> VirtualDriverEx=CustomVirtualDriver

2. Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICAClientEngineConfigurationAdvancedModulesCustomVirtualDriver -> DriverNameWin32 = CustomVirtualDriver.DLL

The problem that I've encountered is that after upgrading the Citrix Workspace App I get the following error message:

You might be having an issue with a Citrix virtual driver (clntinfo). Contact your system administrator for further assistance.

This error occurs because only the value of the VirtualDriverEx registry key is kept after upgrade. This causes the Citrix Workspace App to still try to load the custom Virtual Driver.

But the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICAClientEngineConfigurationAdvancedModulesCustomVirtualDriver gets deleted. This means Citrix Workspace App can't find the .dll to load for the custom Virtual Driver.

This issue can be reproduced as follows:

1. Install the Citrix Workspace App v19.2

2. Install the demo Virtual Driver from: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX129961?download

3. Open a CitrixApp and confirm the custom Virtual Driver gets loaded

Citrix Workspace Virtual Channel

4. Upgrade to Citrix Workspace App v19.3

5. Try to open any CitrixApp and notice that we get the following error message:

Further info:

1. This issue occurs when upgrading to any Citrix Workspace App version.

Citrix Workspace Virtual Machine

2. This issue doesn't occur when upgrading between Citrix Receiver versions.

3. This issue has also been reported for the HDX Skype Plugin here: https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX238932

And this has indeed been fixed for the HDX Skype Plugin, but only that. Any other custom Virtual Driver breaks after Citrix Workspace App upgrade.

Questions:
1. Has this issue been reported?

2. Is there anything Citrix can do about this issue?
